Dustin-Koa Art
My name is Caity and I'm a contemporary Aboriginal artist, psychologist and mum. I started painting professionally 3 years ago and have built my business across that time. I paint because it makes me happy and it reminds of Broken Hill (where Dad grew up). My paintings reflect the colours, patterns and energy I feel when we get to go back and visit Broken Hill.

Where did you study art or how did you train?:
I'm self-taught. I've been fortunate to learn from other experienced Aboriginal artists and have developed my own personal artistic style over the last 3 years.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?:
I really look up to two Indigenous artists, their instagram handles are @nardurna and @Amanda_hinkelmann_art.
How would you describe your artistic style?:
I would describe my style as contemporary Aboriginal art. I have traditional elements but I've created my own patterns that reflect the different elements of the landscape around Broken Hill.
What themes or subjects do you most frequently explore in your art work?:
The core themes I explore throughout my works are identity, connection, discovery, physical aspects of the land and life events that I'm going through at the time of painting.
Have you won any awards or participated in any exhibitions?:
I was recently a part of the " Greetings from my living room" exhibition with Guildhouse Australia.
Do you have a memorable story or experience related to your art?:
I think all of the amazing brand collaborations I've been a part of have been so memorable. Working with Kulani Kinis, Bared Footwear and Yarn Marketplace have been such a highlight!
Tell us about your first painted ArtBag. What was the inspiration behind this piece. What did you most and least enjoy about working on it?:
This piece is a reflection of the places I think of when I picture Broken Hill. This includes campsites, mountains, pathways and my favourite people (my family). I wanted to use pinks/purples as those colours remind me of the colours of sunsets in Broken Hill. I most enjoyed seeing my artwork against the Gucci print and I least enjoyed completing the dot work as it was much harder on an uneven surface!
