Colour Change - Give your designer handbag or shoes a new lease on life

I would like a colour change for my handbag, what do I need to know?

Whether its Chanel, Gucci or Dior, a designer handbag is a staple in every fashion-conscious person's wardrobe. They not only make a statement but also add an element of luxury to any outfit.

However, after a while, even the most expensive handbag can start to feel a little dull and uninspired. If you're looking for a way to give your designer handbag a fresh new look, you might want to consider changing its colour, this can transform it into something unique and eye-catching, or to something more classic and easy to wear, depending on what colour you go for.

The great thing about colour changing techniques is it gives you far more options than simply buying another bag from the shop.

Dyeing

Dyeing is a popular technique for changing the colour of leather handbags and is mostly used for absorbent leathers such as aniline, nubuck and suede but most commonly patent leather. This style of leather is one of the most common to get colour changed because lighter coloured patents have a tendency to discolour and stain over time. Once this happens it cannot be rectified or restored so a colour change is the next best option. Colour changing suede, nubuck, aniline and patent leather using dyes has to be to a darker colour to cover over the staining or the existing colour. Although it is possible to achieve a darker colour such as ox-blood red or navy the most effective results come from changing to black. We will appraise each item that comes in and give the best options for the bag. If you would prefer a colour we can advise on what will give the best results.

Painting/Pigmenting:

Painting or Pigmenting your designer handbag is a technique used to change the colour of non-absorbent leathers such as single pigment or two tone. This finish can be found on a number of different leather types such as calf skin, lambskin, exotic leather etc. This method  of colour changing has a wide variety of colour options to choose from. You can simply send us in a swatch or paint sample of a colour or a picture of a bag in a colour that you like and we will custom mix our pigments to match. Much like matching a wall paint in your local bunnings! We don't recommend changing to a colour that is lighter than the original bag, for example black to white. The reason for this is more pigment would be required to get full coverage over the black, which will ultimately compromise the look and feel of the original leather. We like to keep the colour application to three light coats for good coverage and wear but not a heavy painted look.

Colour Change your Designer Shoes

Designer shoes are often the centrepiece of any fashionable outfit. They come in a wide range of styles and colours, but overtime they can become discoloured and stained, or you simply don't reach for them as much as you used to, perhaps because they don't match your current wardrobe any more. This is where Bagsamoré steps in. We can update and change the colour of your shoes, to give them a new lease on life and get them circulating back in to your day to day outfit choices.

Just like designer handbags, depending on the type of leather we may choose to dye or paint the shoes in order to change them. Take a look at these Stuart Weitzman patent shoes colour changed from stained beige to Dark Charcoal Grey!

Colour Change using paints or pigments is a great to add a pop of colour and give a whole new look to your designer shoes.

Take a look at these Valentino Rockstud shoes. The customer wanted to go for a more versatile nude colour, rather than the original blue she purchased them in. As you can see the shoes had some scuffs and repair work required beforehand as they were well worn. We matched to a colour nude that the customer provided and carried out the colour change, ensuring the contrast trim remained the same. Don't you just love the results!?
