Tish Willo
As far back as I can remember, I've been creating... drawing my year one teacher, in bright colours - despite her only wearing black, earnt me my first art award when I was 6 years old. Today this work still hangs proudly with its gold star at my parents home in Western Australia.
One thing that hasn't changed in the 30 odd years since that drawing, is my love for creating. My hands and my mind need to create, every day - Paint, Draw, Scribble just something. Through works on paper, canvas and visual diaries I am forever pattern hunting and colour collecting. Inspiration, Ideas and Motivation are all around.
For me, art is intuitive - you create what you feel, sometimes its good, sometimes its not. What matters is the fact you create. My day to day practice, changes depending on the weather, the colour of my socks, the song on the radio and as a result I have a constantly evolving palette and abstract process.
My works reflect, these changes, these feelings and emotions and I believe this is what makes art powerful. Art Heals. Art Matters. @tishwillo_creative or www.tishwillocreative.com
How would you describe your artistic style?:
Intuitive, colourful and freeing
What themes or subjects do you most frequently explore in your art work?:
I create what I feel. As someone with long term health issues, art is my therapy. To create is to escape, it’s a distraction and a very powerful healing tool. Art heals, it matters.
Have you won any awards or participated in any exhibitions?:
I won the draw your teacher competition in the 90s and haven’t stopped creating since haha
Tell us about your first painted ArtBag. What was the inspiration behind this piece. What did you most and least enjoy about working on it?:
Translating my style to a bag using only the leather paints was a challenge. Having been used to pens, crayons and pencils to create marks and scribbles I had to adapt to different brushes and tools to create different shapes and marks.
Tish Willo chose to custom paint a Gucci bamboo handle bag. This bag is a taupe colour leather with a cream fabric interior.. Why not add Tish Willo’s ArtBag to your collection today - available to purchase in our shop or book her for a one-to-one commission on your own handbag.
